Phoenix – A bird-like pattern can manifest in the sun's corona during total solar eclipses. Cloud and sun patterns, especially just before, and at, sunset, often produce similar images.

This pattern possibly inspired several cultures with sun-bird symbolism and formed the basis of the Aegyptian winged-sun-disk symbol and the Phoenix myth.

The Phoenix is an universal symbol found in both eastern and western symbolic mythology. The Phoenix is (in the western version) said to arise in Arabia once every 500 years. It then flies to Heliopolis, the City of the Sun, in Aegypt, where it enters the Solar Temple, builds a nest of twigs, sits on the nest, ignites the fire, and burns up. From the remaining ashes, the Phoenix gathers up its residual elements and "rises from the ashes."

This symbolism represents the cyclic course of events for all living things, including human beings, governments, and civilizations. Let us consider, in seven detailed stages, how this represents the progress of the individual initiate:

The Phoenix arises in Arabia once every 500 yearsArises means "is born." This symbolizes the 1° initiation. The first degree in all initiatory systems represents birth.

The 1° rebirth symbolism, favored by all systems, provides a "base-level" foundation for correlating various, diverse systems of attainment. Christians cannot enter heaven unless they are "born again." "Except a man be born again, he may in no wise enter the kingdom of heaven." The Transhimalayan 1° is translated as "The Birth of the Christ in the Cave of the Heart."

Arabia is the country of origin because this is a Saracen-Sufi version of mythology that was passed on to initiated Knights Templar during the crusades. 500 years* is the (rounded off) cyclic timespan between manifestations of the Phoenix, who, if brought to maturity, becomes a high-ranking Adept with the ability to influence the course of evolutionary progress for the mass consciousness.

* The number of years varies according to the source of the tale.

The Phoenix flies to Heliopolis, the City of the Sun – The Flight of the Phoenix represents the work that an initiate of the outer order must perform. Flying symbolizes the rising of consciousness to a higher level; flying also symbolizes astral projection and rising on the planes.

Heliopolis, the City of the Sun, is an Ancient Aegyptian temple complex that formerly was called On. Today, it corresponds to a suburb of Cairo. The City of the Sun is also one of the names for Tiphereth on The Tree of Life.

The Phoenix enters the Solar Temple - Enters the Solar Temple implies that the initiate has arrived at Tiphereth, the Sphere of the Sun on The Tree of Life. It indicates that he or she has been admitted to the Inner Order. The Solar Temple is a meditative sanctuary in the heart chakra on the causal plane.

The Phoenix builds a nest of twigs – The Nest is the causal body (Soul) of the initiate. Each Twig represents a piece of karma. The causal body should be a clear, golden hue, and if it is, it indicates the presence of a Magister >

Magister, in this case, means a realized Adept, Master, Chohan, or some other title for an enlightened being.

The presence of effects (as in the law of cause-and-effect, or karma) manifests as thoughtforms (symbols or images) in the causal aura, much like sunspots appear on the sun. These images cause a distortion in the initiate's perception of reality and dilute or block portions of the outflow of radiant energy.

These images are problems. They can cause psychological disorders and medical conditions. Although practitioners can often heal lesser problems, at this (causal) level, no one else can disperse, resolve, or heal these imbedded thoughtforms – The initiate must resolve each problem for himself or herself.

As counselors or practitioners, we may describe these problems, thus bringing a client to the understanding of what he or she must accomplished, but we cannot "heal" them; it is strictly a matter between the client and his or her soul.

This is the task of the Inner Order: To resolve each and every causal (karmic) stain that is embedded in the causal aura. Of course, this is impossible for the individual initiate. That is why, at the level now being discussed, the initiate must make contact with his or her Solar Angel (also called the Holy Guardian Angel). The Solar Angel will then guide the initiate through the experiences (in life – not in the abstract realms) required to resolve the problems, to balance their karma.

The Phoenix sits on the nest and ignites the fire – The initiate has no choice but to Sit on the Nest, because that is where he or she already is situated. The karma is already embedded in the initiate's causal body (nest).

The Ignition of the Fire is a most interesting event. Here is how it comes about: The initiate of the Outer Order must align his or her personality. This means that the physical, emotional, and intellectual (the "lower," concrete mind) seed atoms (essences) must be harmonized and "going in the same direction." This is the same as doing something "with your whole body and mind." When perfectly aligned, the balanced personality automatically penetrates the Veil of Illusion (Paroketh) - The initiate can then "fly" to Tiphereth (Heliopolis), the City of the Sun, the lowest sphere (of three spheres) of the inner order, where he or she finally enters the Temple of the Sun.

From this sanctuary (the Temple of the Sun), which is actually the heart chakra that is anchored deep in the center of the causal body, the initiate must "obtain the knowledge and conversation" of the Solar Angel. The Solar Angel guides the "burning tip of awareness" of the personality and the "burning tip of awareness" of the Higher Self into a precise point of contact. This contact is symbolized by two triangles, one ascending (the aligned, triune personality) and the other descending (the solar trinity), with their apices touching.

The pinpoint energy generated by this contact opens up a small hole, a Venturi, similar to the tiny passageway in an hourglass or carburetor, through which sand may pass. In this case, the fire of consciousness flows through the Venturi. This is the Ignition of the Fire of the Phoenix. This is the culminating act in the 3° Transhimalayan initiation ceremony (5° A\ A\ ). It is said that the Lord of the World applies the Rod of Initiation to the candidate's crown, thus initiating (starting) the fire that will eventually burn off all personal karma.

This particular initiation must be taken in full, waking consciousness, and it is purely an energetic modification of consciousness. Any ceremonial or symbolic visions that the initiate might perceive are solely the result of his or her thoughtform-making capacity. This will vary according to the individual's paradigm (viewpoint of reality).

Christians will perceive Christ, Buddhists will experience the Buddha, Practitioners of High Magick will encounter the Grand Hierophant of the White Brotherhood.

However, some thoughtform must be perceived in order to meaningfully register the event in the mind of the initiate.

The Phoenix burns up – Once the inner point is ignited, a "holy fire" begins to burn outward through the causal body. The problems, the complex, resident "sunspots" of karma, are enflamed. For each complex that is ignited and "burned away," a corresponding interaction, experience, or event occurs in the daily life of the initiate.

There is no flash-bang, instant, mystical obliteration of karma on the inner planes* - It all has to be worked out in the external, as well as the internal, realms. The Solar Angel acts as a "guide" through these experiences.

* There are a few exceptional cases, wherein certain people have experienced traumatic, spontaneous enlightenment.

The energetic outflow of this ever-expanding, causal fire (soul-fire) is perceived by (adequately sensitive) other people as a radiation of Light, or as a "golden glow," that is the hallmark of the Adept of the Inner Order. During this process, the Adept often displays magickal powers and philosophical insights.

.

This expanding fire eventually reaches the periphery, the outer edge, of the causal body. All of the initiate's personal, cause-and-effect disharmonies have been erased. The final flare of flame bursts forth and the initiate is thrown (jumps, expands, or leaps) into The Abyss.

.

There is no further assistance from the Solar Angel, it's function having been exhausted. The Solar Angel is said to lead the initiate to the brink of The Abyss, and there to abandon him.

"My God, My God! Why hast Thou forsaken me?"

The Phoenix gathers up its residual elements and "rises from the ashes" – All of the elements that previously composed the being of the initiate, even the soul-body of the Adept, are disbursed by that mighty demon, Choronzon, in The Abyss. This is the same as "burning down into ashes."

The gathering up of the residual elements is consistent with "re-assembling consciousness on the far side of The Abyss."

Everything that was a hindrance to accessing the consciousness was burned up in Fire of the Phoenix with any remnants being purified in the crossing of The Abyss. As quoted elsewhere (above), it has been "the annihilation of that personality which limits the true self." Anyway, it was all merely programmed illusion.

Rising from the Ashes depicts the subsequent progress of the Adept. The task now becomes "to obtain a perfect understanding of the Universe." This is accomplished through silence, as found at Binah, the City of the Pyramids, the third emanation (from the top) of The Tree of Life, also known as the Buddhic plane of understanding and intuition.

In this case, silence means Samadhi or Sartori - "Universal Consciousness."

The forces of karma are still operative at this level, but the Adept (being in expanded awareness) is no longer involved with personal karma*, but rather is concerned with universal karma: This is what is known as "Taking on the sins of the world."

* There is no "personal" karma on the Buddhic plane, there being no "person." However, this only holds true while operating at this level of consciousness. A descent in consciousness, accompanying a return to the external world, again engages the initiate in the realm of personal karma.

Eventually, in the fullness of time, and having attained to complete understanding, the purified Phoenix will journey from Binah to Chokmah. This a transfer of modus operandi from the Buddhic plane to the Atmic (spiritual-atomic) plane.

Atmic derives from Atma, the plane of the Atman (over-soul). Note that Atmic is the Sanskrit basis of the word Atomic. A-tom - (A = "not", tome = "cut") means "incapable of being cut or divided into smaller particles." This is an ancient term. Modern science has, however, opened the door to the world of subatomic physics.

In order to accomplish this transfer, The Phoenix must bear his ashes (his residual elements, endowed with understanding) to the Central Temple* in the City of the Pyramids, where he places the ashes in an Urn (some legends say an Egg) where they are activated by Atmic (atomic) energy. The Urn, or Egg, becomes "radioactive" and is capable of "rebirthing" another Phoenix, as well as changing the nature of reality of the mass consciousness.

* This is not the Temple of the Sun at Heliopolis. This Central Temple in the City of the Pyramids is a higher, atomic-level sanctuary, of which the Temple of the Sun is a lower-level reflection.

Pure White Magick

Pure White Magick – There are Three Styles of Magickal Motivation:

The Yellow Style is concerned with harmony and balance (the "Middle Way"). Yellow-style Adepts rarely engage in magickal intervention in the general order of things, but will exercise their ability to do so if they perceive that harmony and balance are being led astray. The classical text of This Style is the Tao Teh Ching.

The Black Style is concerned with benefiting oneself at the expense of other beings (a definition of "Black Magick"). Black-style Adepts frequently engage in magickal practices to enhance their energy, position, and wealth, usually through the confounding or destruction of "enemies." Although they are encased in White-style rhetoric, most contemporary schools of "prosperity" are a common example of The Black Style.

The White Style is concerned with benefiting the whole at the expense of one's self (of course, if the whole benefits, then so does it's parts, including the White magician"). White-style Adepts frequently engage in magickal practices to enhance the evolutionary process and bestow an expanded, higher level of consciousness upon the masses. The White-style is commonly referred to as High Magick. White-style Adepts often utilize external, ceremonial, magickal techniques.

Great Grandfather Crowley called these The Three Schools of Magick

When we refer to Pure White Magick, it is the term Pure that merits consideration. Pure means that the process is purely mental. That is, there are no external, ceremonial, magickal techniques utilized, including rituals, talismans, and/or links. Pure White Magick is engaged in the following manner.

However, there is always an element of astral motivation involved because any concrete thoughtform is automatically bound up with desire – The Hindus call it Kama-Manas ("desire-mind").

Secrets

Secrets – The bottom line here is that There are no Secrets! As in The Secrets of Mystical Attainment. Of course, there are endless, secret documents, maps, passwords, rituals, rosters, signs, and symbols. These types of secrets are (supposed to be) entrusted to small or large groups. Why are they secret?

Secret documents – This includes initiation rituals as well as initiatory papers given to the initiate after an initiation ceremony has been completed. Since almost all initiations are "secret," these documents are to be withheld from exoteric (public) access. Of course, the secret rituals of Freemasonry have been published by renegade initiates. The Secret Rituals of the OTO were obtained and published by (the uninitiated) Francis King. The innermost workings of the Super-secret IX° were published by Louis Culling. Etcetera.

Secret Maps – Here, we refer specifically to locations of initiatory centers, as in "I solemnly swear not to reveal … the location of its [the Order's] camps."

Secret PasswordsPasswords are used by initiates to identify other initiates. This ancient practice reached its peak in the western world during, and shortly after, the European dark ages*, and also following certain political revolutions in China during the same time period, when belonging to a secret society carried a death penalty. The establishment particularly frowned upon members of the Templar, Rosicrucian, Alchemical, and Illuminati groups in Europe, and the Triad and Kung-Fu groups in China.

*The dark ages (400 AD – 1600 AD) were dark because the prevailing philosophy was "We don't want enlightenment, we don't want new thinking, we don't want to upset the current, religious order. We have it all figured out and in-place. New ideas must be discouraged by death, including the burning of witches and pagan healers, the burning of "renegade" politico-religious initiates, and the burning of scientists."

There is also evidence that a massive volcanic eruption created worldwide darkness (from airborne ashes) around 400 AD, causing a generalized dimming of sunlight for years at the beginning of the "dark" ages.

Secret Rituals – The nature of certain (initiatory, even political) ceremonies is supposed to be kept hidden from non-initiates. For one thing, a ceremony is said to lose its power if its workings are widely known.

All initiation ceremonies fall into a certain pattern: The candidate is symbolically slain and then resurrected into a new, mystical identity. This is, of course, exactly what happens to the individual, in their inner self, when they pass from one level of consciousness to the next. External ceremonies are merely reflections of internal processes.

Secret Rosters – This is a list of names of initiates. During the dark ages, such a list could lead to the death of entire memberships*. Today, such lists can lead to the alienation of families and friends. Membership identifications are usually prohibited by oaths such as "I solemnly swear not to reveal the name of any member of this Order."

* For an example, refer to your encyclopedia under Inquisition

Secret Signs – In addition to passwords, signs and grips (secret handshakes) are used by initiates to identify other initiates. See secret passwords, above.

Secret SymbolsSymbols, through the agency of sympathetic magick, are said to have the same power as the process or concept that they represent. Symbols are used on talismans, for generating Empowerment energies, and in esoteric teachings.

Symbols used on talismans include the Enochian alphabet and assorted, energetic diagrams. Such symbols are hardly secret, having been published everywhere. A talisman is a "storehouse of energy" and may take various forms, including parchment or paper designs, metallic objects, statues, icons, etc. Certain paper diagrams, used in Empowerment systems like Reiki and Sirius, are just as efficient as ancient Abramelin parchment talismans.

Empowerment Symbols are known and used only by authorized "Masters," "Trainers," or "Initiators." These symbols are used to permanently "lock-in" the Empowerment energy capability. Formal, "locked-in" Empowerment capabilities are permanent and last for a lifetime.

When anyone "gives away" an Empowerment symbol, their capacity to utilize the energies is diminished or, in some cases, rendered null and void. This is an universal principle and not merely scare tactics or arbitrary rule-making.

Symbols used in esoteric teachings include various alchemical and talismanic concepts. These are mostly well-known, but their interpretation varies according to the degree of initiation. Examples of such symbols include the Circle and the Cross (combined), and the Lion, Eagle, Egg, and Serpent of the Order of the Temple.

Inner Secrets – Dr. Jung indicated that there can be no individuation (his term for the initiatory process) without a person having "a secret that they will not, or can not, disclose to anyone else."

Also, there are personal secrets, such as the infidelity or illegal actions of friends; trade and professional secrets, like manufacturing processes; proprietary secrets, as in "secret herbal remedies" and financial secrets, including "insider information" in the stock market, how to get rich schemes, or cheating on one's taxes. Such personal secrets, when disclosed to others, may lead to interpersonal or legal difficulties, but they have nothing to do with the path of initiation.

.

The Solar Angel

Solar Angel – The Solar Angel is also known as the Holy Guardian Angel, the Augoides, the Superior Man, and many other terms that vary with the times and the culture. The concept is laden, for many people, with illusion and glamour. Who or what is this mysterious entity?

The Solar Angel is an independent being that is a member of the Deva evolution*.

* The Devas are a parallel evolution to humanity. They include archangels, angels, elementals, and similar spirits. The group consciousness of a school of fish, a herd of animals, or a flock of birds, is presided over by a single devic entity. Mountains, energy centers, forests, etc. are similar in this regard.

He (we use the masculine term) is assigned to "guide and protect" the causal consciousness of the individual human "soul." He "guides" the person as in "The Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel," for humans will purposely invoke this entity for guidance along their life path. The Angel actually "guides" the initiate of the inner order along his or her sequential overcoming of accumulated cause-and-effect (karma). He "protects" the person by maintaining the integrity of their causal body.*

Compare the early works of Carlos Castañeda, where Mescalito (the spirit of the peyote cactus) is said to "Guide and Protect."

* The causal plane contains the causal body, also called the Soul, the Ego, or the Reincarnating Ego. Emanations of the causal body can be seen in the causal aura.

The Solar Angel is said to lead (guide) the initiate through the expiation of his or her karma unto a lofty place, even unto the brink of The Abyss, where the Angel then abandons the initiate. "My God, my God! Why hast thou forsaken me?" This is because (1) All personal karma has been balanced and there is no "debt" left to be protected, and (2) The initiate must make it to the next level by himself or herself, without guidance or support.

For a classical example of the Solar Angel, refer to Dante's Divine Comedy.

.

Spiritual Garbage

Spiritual Garbage – This is the accumulated memory and imprint of previous experiences, including grade levels, magickal powers, and miraculous events. It is a form of karma and it (along with everything else) must be abandoned or it will hinder further progress. Of course, we retain the memory of our spiritual history and experiences. It is our attachment, and assignment of importance, to these matters that must be abandoned.

The entire documentary entitled The True History of Solar Lodge is a shining example of Spiritual Garbage. It was written in order to "Take out the papers and the trash."

.

Star System

Star System – In the beginning there was the invisible Order that had no name. It is nature's way of ordering the various levels of consciousness. Its generic name was, and is, The Planetary Hierarchy. More specifically, it has become widely known as The White Brotherhood.

In the early 1900's, our Great Grandfather, the Master Therion, set forth the training curriculum for the Great White Brotherhood known as the A\ A\, which is probably the most practical and efficient system of (self) initiation available to seekers of spiritual attainment in the western world.

A\A\ = Astrum Argentum, the "Silver Star."
Many authors maintain the Silver Star is Sirius.

Beginning in the 1920's, following in the footsteps of Helena P. Blavatsky and Annie Besant, the well known channel, Alice A. Bailey, set forth an elucidation of the spiritual principles of the Transhimalayan White Brotherhood, which is probably the most detailed and hardest-to-understand explanation of the system of (self) initiation available to seekers of spiritual attainment in the western world.

In 1980, Frater Shiva set forth a training curriculum entitled Star System, based directly on the Tasks of the Grades of the A\A\, but included additional studies in the principles of the Transhimalayan White Brotherhood. From 1980 to 2005, Star System, graduated five Adepts, four of whom attained the Grade of Magister, with two of these going on to initiate their own system of spiritual cultivation. The gates of initiation into Star System were closed in 2005.

"Graduated" means the candidates completed Outer Order training and were admitted to the Inner Order, and/or otherwise attained the Grade of Magister in the Supernal Order.

.

Succession

Succession – This refers to the ongoing, descending lineage of positions, teachers, and Orders.

The succession of positions is described in relation to outer and inner job-descriptions. Everyone is familiar with the (outer) job-description personnel changes of presidents, viceroys, "right-hand" assistants, secretaries, treasurers, mechanics, etc., etc. Either through election or appointment, the "next" person in line assumes the duties of his or her predecessor. Inner position changes are a bit different.

In the metaphysical realm, groups are composed of people who hold various positions. These groups exist on the inner (astral, mental, spiritual) planes, and have been firmly established through years or centuries (even aeons) of repetitive group functions.

Thus, a member of an outer group may find that they "automatically" shift into a position within the group, and find that they have access to knowledge and powers that are beyond their original capabilities. Such members are naturally predisposed to hold these positions, but the selection mechanism is metaphysical and not dependent on election or appointment. This process only applies to groups that are linked to a true lineage. If the member is (by outer means) simply elected, or appointed because it is convenient, then this principle will not apply - In fact, they will either fail or cause endless difficulties.

All true spiritual teachers are somehow linked to a true lineage, and they will gather students around them, with each student fulfilling a particular function. The student (or member) will certainly be aware of this overshadowing process, but they may interpret the phenomenon as a "past life," which it is not. When a student (or member) quits, leaves, or otherwise abandons his or her position in a group, another student (member) will appear and assume the abandoned role. The person who leaves will then cease to be overshadowed, and their previous metaphysical "identity," including specific functions, will no longer manifest. This does not mean that they have not advanced personally, or that they have wasted their time. At some point, it is simply time to move on.

Moving on is known as "Slapping the Guru." Not in the sense of an attack, but as a slap on the back, implying "Thanks for your help, teacher. So long! I'll be moving on to something else now."

The replacement process may take some time, and not all positions are necessarily filled at any given time. This process can be found alike in large Orders and small groups. In group formations, it is very common to note that "So-and-so is just like what's his name," including his or her character, personality, abilities, and/or problems.

The succession of teachers (leaders) can be quite dramatic. Sometimes, when a prominent teacher passes on, the succeeding teacher seamlessly slips into the previous guru's position. This is true when the successor has already been appointed or recognized by the group membership. But often, there are squabbles and much infighting occurs as various contenders fight to be "King of the Hill." A notorious example would be when Great Grandfather Crowley died, leaving assorted "successors" with notes and scraps of paper authorizing them to be the next "Head of the Order." In a similar manner, when Helena Blavatsky died, her Theosophical Society was split into two factions, each side favoring either William Q. Judge or Annie Besant.

One of Crowley's best, last, and most realistic, notes was "My sword to him that can get it!"

The succession of teachers (for the individual) can be traumatic for the initiate, especially when there is personal attachment or especially when Oaths of Loyalty and Devotion have been taken. Sometimes the Oaths appear to be very binding and permanent, with all manner of penalties attached should the initiate quit the teacher or the Order and (heaven forbid!) move on to another teacher or group. This dilemma is quite common, and there is an universal, spiritual principle that applies to such situations:

A new, over-riding Oath supercedes a previous obligation as long as the new Oath is taken to an entity that is operating at a higher level of consciousness than the prior entity.

This dilemma is resolvable because it falls under another principle that states, "The lesser can never understand the greater; but the greater encompasses the lesser."

Think of it this way: Municipal law is overridden by State law, and State law is overridden by Federal law.

The succession of Orders can be just as problematic as any examples given above. Most properly-formed organizations pass on their authority by way of documents like articles of incorporation (with bylaws), charters, trusts, warrants, etc. An unauthorized Masonic Chapter or Order is called clandestine.

Children that are born of married parents are considered legitimate; children that are born of unmarried parents are considered illegitimate; but what matters is – they are born, and they are living beings.

If you are thinking of pulling one of these tricks, the best way to handle the matter is to change the name of the Order and don't infringe upon the rights of the duly-appointed.

There is also consideration of cyclic rebirth of "invisible" Orders into sequential, successive, temporal organizations. One such lineage that gave endless trouble to the European establishment went like this:

Knights Templar (military) > Rosicrucians (religious) >
Illuminati (political) > Contemporary Orders

.

Synchronicity

Synchronicity – This term, coined by Karl G. Jung, MD, enjoys common usage today. It translates as meaningful coincidence. We all know and use the term coincidence.

Actually, everything in our lives is coincidental. Co-incident = "Same event" or happening together in time and/or space. The emphasis here, as we consider synchronicity ("same time force"), is on the word meaningful.

Hey! If it grabs your attention, especially if it's backed up with multiple coinciding factors, and if it rings your internal bells, then it is meaningful. It is not to be lightly dismissed with the commonplace statement, "Oh, it's only a coincidence!"

There are very few reliable guideposts on the spiritual path. People often wonder, "Is this a message from my higher self, or is it just my desire?" The answer can be difficult to obtain. However, there is a state of being that can come upon us in the midst of our daily life. It is when everything seems to coincide (synchronize) and run smoothly. Internally, we see it, and we feel it, and we proclaim it to be meaningful. The sensation is similar to the phenomenon known as Déjà vu. This is one of the only (perhaps the only) feedback mechanisms that lets us know that we are doing our Will.

.

Transmission

Transmission – This refers to the energetic "passing on" of states of consciousness through teaching, Empowerment, Initiation, and similar processes. The three types of transmission are: Oral, symbolic, and direct.

Oral transmission occurs through speaking and listening, or through writing and reading. Though the "Power of the Word," the brain translates these utterances into concepts and practical applications. Such ideas are transmitted through conversations, speeches, and books. Certain words pronounced during ceremonies have a similar, if not more potent, effect.

Symbolic transmission takes place through emblems, symbols, icons, and works of art like statues, paintings, and talismans. Initiatory ceremonies are composed of symbolic rites, oral transmission, and (if genuine) a central act of direct transmission.

Direct transmission may be enacted without words or symbols, although these may be synchronized with the transfer of consciousness. Sometimes, the delivery is from the eyes of the transmitter*, and sometimes the reception is through the eyes of the beholder (Darshan = The act of viewing a holy man).

* There are accounts of certain holy men who, when they simply look at you, their glance causes your consciousness to radically change.

Initiation rituals (are supposed to) contain a central act of direct transmission. Although symbols can play a part, Empowerments are usually short and direct.

.

2012

2012 – Throughout history, small and large groups of people have anticipated certain dates as being significant change-points, due to fear, superstition, hope, and/or wishful thinking.

In European 1000 AD (the millennium), their was widespread panic because the masses believed the world was going to end. The world did not end.

The year 1984 was looked upon, without widespread panic, as notable merely because a popular book and movie (1984) portrayed the chilling concept of struggle against the repressive establishment of Big Brother. When 1984 rolled around, there was no mass awareness that it had finally arrived.

Big Brother is, and always has been, with us – according to the available technology of any given era.

The Harmonic Convergence phenomena of 1987 caused a big stir - But the day after, it was apparent that nothing had changed. The Timeshift in 1992 got a lot of attention (but less than the Convergence).

The lesser-anticipated Polar Shift of 2000 was eclipsed by massive concerns about all computers, everywhere, crashing due to internal clocks that couldn't function outside of the 1900's. Almost every computer was discarded, upgraded, reprogrammed, or traded-in, and there was no collapse of civilization - But we did get to see how dependent our culture is on our robot machinery - Then we let that insight go, as we made it even more complex and ourselves more dependent.

Now we only have 2012 to deal with. There are multiple paradigms that herald 2012 as holding a major crossroad: Some say that Kali Yuga, the age of moral decline, will end – but there doesn't seem to be much current evidence to back this up. However, there does appear to be some interesting astronomical data relating to 2012, and then there is the last day of the Mayan calendar:

The Mayan Classic Period ran for 700 years (±200 to ±900 AD), but new archeological discoveries are driving back the dawn date of Mayan civilization. The Maya adopted two different time systems, the Short Count and the Long Count. The Long Count was said to be put in place around 355 BC. It has been determined that the Long Count date 0.0.0.0.0 corresponds to August 11th, 3114 BC in our Gregorian calendar. This means that the end date of 13.0.0.0.0, some 5125 years later, is

December 21st, 2012 AD

Precession

The precession of the equinoxes, also known as the Platonic Year, is caused by the slow sway of the earth's polar axis. Right now this axis closely points to Polaris, the "Pole Star," but this changes slowly over long periods of time. The earth's wobble causes the position of the seasonal quarters to slowly precess against the background of stars. For example, right now, the winter solstice position is in the constellation of Sagittarius, but 2000 years ago it was in Capricorn. Precession changes this position at the rate of 1° every 72 years.

The Sacred Tree

The Sacred Tree that Pacal Votan ascends in death is more than just the Ecliptic, it is the sacred doorway to the underworld. The crossing point of the Milky Way and the Ecliptic is the doorway that represents the origin and sacred source of life. The Sacred Tree lies at the center of Mayan Creation Myths.

Pacal Votan (591-683 AD) is the last major Mayan king who assumed rulership at the age of 12 in 603 AD, and whose remains were interred in a sarcophagus under the Temple of the Inscriptions at Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico. After his death, his two sons sequentially became kings and completed the temple complex. The city was abandoned in 799 AD.

In the picture (below) of this well known sarcophagus carving, notice that the Milky Way tree serves as an extension of Pacal's umbilicus. Lord (Ahau) Pacal Votan is, by way of divine kingship, equated with the sun, and he is portrayed "entering" the Sacred Tree on his famous sarcophagus lid. On what date does the sun conjunct the crossing point of the Ecliptic and the Milky Way? This would be an important date.

In the pre-dawn skies of this date, the Milky Way would be seen to arch overhead from the region of Polaris and would point right at where the sun rises. This is the only date when the Sun/Lord could jump from the Ecliptic track and travel the Milky Way up and around the vault of heaven to the region of Polaris, there to enter the "Heart of the Sky."

Note that 1300 years ago, during the zenith of Palenque's glory, Polaris was much less an exact "Pole Star" than it is now, but it wasn't a Pole Star that the Maya mythologized in this regard, it was the unmarked polar "dark region" symbolizing death and the underworld around which everything was observed to revolve.

The exact center of the Milky Way band found on star charts, known as the "Galactic Equator" (not to be confused with the Galactic Center), where it crosses the Ecliptic in Sagittarius, just happens to be where a dark rift, caused by interstellar dust clouds, in the Milky Way begins,. To observers on earth, it appears as a dark road which begins near the Ecliptic and stretches along the Milky Way up towards Polaris.

In the Popol Vuh, we find that the ancient Maya called it the "Black Road," and also as "Crossroads." Additionally, where the Milky Way crosses the Ecliptic in Sagittarius just happens to be the direction of the Galactic Center.

December 21st, 2012 (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count) represents the conjunction of the winter solstice sun with the crossing point of the Sacred Tree. It must be understood that the winter solstice sun rarely conjuncts the Sacred Tree. In fact, this is an event that has been very slowly approaching over many thousands of years. This celestial convergence appears to parallel the accelerating pace of human civilization. We note that due to precession being a very slow process, similar astronomical alignments will exist on the winter solstice dates within five years on either side of 2012.

However, the accuracy of the 2012 conjunction is astounding, beyond anything deemed calculable by the ancient Maya, and is the perfect midpoint of the process.

The conjunction of the winter solstice sun with the Galactic Center in 2012, a "once-in-a-precessional-cycle" event, provides the end point for the theory of time known as Timewave Zero. Ancient myths proclaim this "crossroad" to be the time when the grand cycle ends and the ancient "star people" return.
