The Fourth Root-Race - Emotional Man

In Atlantean times, the lines of demarcation between physical life and material goals began to control the purely animal nature. Man slowly became acquisitive and surrounded himself with his wants. The lines of cleavage between the instinctual animal and the acquisitive man became more clearly defined.

Gradually the latent mental element unfolded within these pioneers (just as the intuitive element, the 6th sub-race, is today unfolding among the mental types of our Aryan 5th sub-race). Men began to form mental perception and brought what little mind they had to the process of gaining more material possessions. The stage of civilization began. A period of urban existence superseded that of a purely nomadic existence. Men started to congregate for their greater material comfort and protection, and worldwide extension began.

AMERICA - The Fifth Root-Race - Mental Man

The past few centuries have seen a major problem in the tendency of humanity to collect together in vast cities and to congregate in great herds, leaving the countryside devoid of its population, thus causing serious problems of nourishment, health and crime. Today this problem is being partially solved, for in many areas, cities are being evacuated and for various reasons, men and women are being driven into the countryside.

The Lords of Evolution are breaking up the herd-like concentration and substituting the rhythm of dispersion. This will benefit the race and give new values to living.

The lines between the animal nature and a form of embryonic aspiration steadily grew during Atlantean times, and the civilization began to set new standards of material comfort and of selfish control on an increasingly larger scale as the urban existence expanded.

It may be difficult to visualize a world as densely populated then as it is today, but it was. The animal nature being dominant at that time, the tendency was to the production of large families, just as it is today among the lower orders in our civilized areas.

In those far-off times, the only people with any true measure of intelligence were the initiates, and they guided and guarded infant humanity, much as modern parents guide and guard their children.

The Spiritual Hierarchy (the extra-terrestrial Galactic Federation of Light Forces) was present upon the earth as the priest-kings, and these acted as focal points of attractive energy, drawing to themselves those with vague mental control, thus making the lines between materialism and spirituality more clear and definite.

The "spirituality" of that time was quite different from that which we now know. It was an aspiration towards a sensed hereafter and a desire for emotional completion. There was no thought - as we know thought - in this attitude, but only a reaching out after a sensed unattainable goal and for those things that were desirable.

This was fostered in the people by the Hierarchy through gifts of various inventions and by the building of great cities and stupendous structures, the remnants of which persist on a worldwide basis today (and continue to bewilder archaeologists). This was done under the guidance of the initiates who employed their knowledge of the nature of matter and energy to produce results that man is endeavoring today to [re]discover.

Everything that our modern civilization has made possible under the name of scientific discovery, and much more, was known in lost Atlantis, but it was not developed by men themselves - it was given to them as a free gift. Beautiful cities, full of temples and great buildings were everywhere to be found. The Chaldean, Babylonian, Sumerian and Aegyptian ruins are their degenerated remnants, and the modern skyscraper their child.

All of our contemporary scientific knowledge was possessed by the Atlantean priest-kings and was, in the eyes of the masses, a form of wonderful magic. Sanitation, hygiene, means of transportation and flying machines were developed and of a very high order. These were not the result however of man’s achievement but gifts from the Hierarchy, developed or constructed by man under wise guidance. The minds of men were undeveloped and not up to such a task, any more than is the mind of a small child.

The demarcation between two Atlantean groups (one side expressing materialism and the other the energy of Light) grew slowly wider, until near the end of the Atlantean Age it was so wide that a crisis was precipitated in the civilized world. The present conflict in our modern world is a definite, continuing effect - an inheritance from our ancient ancestors. Thus came about the great war between the Lords of Form and the Lords of Being, or put another way, between the Forces of Matter and the Great White Lodge.

The Star Trek and Star Wars series of films and books enjoy great, widespread popularity because they [somewhat] accurately portray the dynamics of that distant time.

The Forces of Light triumphed because the Hierarchy was forced to intervene and, with the aid of certain great Lives extraneous to our planetary life, they brought the Atlantean civilization to an abrupt end after a long period of chaos and disaster. This took place through the medium of a culminating catastrophe that wiped hundreds of thousands of human beings off the face of the earth. This historical event has been preserved for us in the universal legend of the great flood. Those who survived are symbolically spoken of as those who were in Noah’s ark.

A closer study of the tale will reveal a state of man's immature development combined with his magical ability to control the subhuman kingdoms and the elemental forces of the planet. These are two angles that have not been studied to any great depth.

Emphasis has, however, been rightly placed upon "divine" intervention. This caused the salvation of an ethically-sound minority (the word "spiritual" would not yet apply) and the destruction of those who were wrongly-oriented toward material aspiration and perception.

The nucleus that was saved formed the basis of our present fifth root-race, the Aryan. The entire Old Testament is built around the growth of this nucleus. Symbolically speaking, the inhabitants of the ark and their descendants stand for the salvaged remnant of humanity - saved in spite of themselves, and though great difficulties, by the Great White Lodge.

Two points now become important. The first, and least important from the viewpoint of the spirit, is the disappearance of almost all signs of the magnificent Atlantean civilization -

- except for those few archeological wonders that intrigue and interest modern man.

The second point is that, for the good of humanity, the Hierarchy withdrew into the background, leaving mankind to find its own way out of the illusion of materialism. War must be brought to its final completion with a view toward an ultimate discarding of it as a means of arriving at desired ends.

This withdrawal of the Hierarchy is also referred to as the Planetary Quarantine by the Galactic Federation of Light Forces.

The following concepts should be recognized as we approach our modern era wherein the culminating effects are taking place:

First, the Ten Commandments. These, although negative in their format and dogmatic in their attitude, have made the issues and the required attitudes adequately clear. Owing to the relatively low stage of human intelligence at the time that they were given (the Biblical dates are incorrect and the time of their issuance is much older than thought), they were mostly stated in the formula, "Thou shalt not," thus turning awareness toward material tendencies.

Second, the Hierarchy withdrew in order that humanity, on reaching maturity, should express free will and the discriminatory aspect of the mind. There was no free will in Atlantean days. There is a tendency toward free will today and we call it liberty, independence, and freedom of thought. These are all attributes of free will, but not the principle of free will per se. Of that, we know as yet but little.

The test for humanity today is whether mental attainment is directed to group good or to selfish ends, to material issues or to spiritual impulses. This ancient conflict has now become acute, the issues are clearer, and the division of the opponents into two clearly defined groups is now so complete that the final struggle has become possible.

However, the masses of the people, the so-called middle classes, are still victims of authority, of control, and remain relatively unthinking and childlike. This means that the true conflict is between a small minority to whom the issues are illuminatingly clear. And the members of this minority have definitely placed themselves on one side or the other of the battle. A mere handful of men, the direct descendants (or if you prefer, the reincarnations) of the leaders in the ancient Atlantean conflict, are now again on earth, directing the forces of light or darkness, and bringing a line-up of millions of men whose will is that of their leaders.

It was the acuteness of this situation that induced the watching Hierarchy to allow a direct inflow of the Shamballa force (in spite of the risks) to pour into the world. The objective was to stimulate the free will of the masses. The result has been relatively good, for it led to the formulation of the great world ideologies - Fascism, Democracy and Communism, as well as that peculiarly distorted blend of Fascism and Communism that goes by the name of Nazism. All these ideologies resulted from the desire of the masses for better conditions in the country where they lived.

In every nation, a small group of people decide the important issues and determine the major national activities. This they do either by force, terror and deception, or by persuasion, fair words and the application of ideological motives.

The Hierarchy is using this situation in order to bring the ancient conflict to an end and thus allow humanity to pass into the new "Aquarian" Age, the Aeon of Horus, relatively free and with a clearer understanding of human rights and relationships.

Actually, the Aeon of Horus may have to fulfil its destiny before the dawn of the "balanced" Aeon of Maat.

It will serve no purpose for us to trace the present world conflict, and the present world leaders, to the conflict and the specific leaders in Atlantean times. It is enough to say that many of the same personalities (on a higher turn of the spiral) are again playing their various parts in the great drama. It is useless for us to emphasize the details of that great war and its modern correspondences. We are in no position to verify the accuracy of any correlation. The point is, however, to arrive at a clear understanding of what is at stake with an accurate grasp of the ideals that animate the two groups of opponents.

It has been said that in Atlantis the war was between the Forces of Darkness (the so-called "Black Lodge") and the Forces of Light (the so-called "Great White Lodge," the Hierarchy of Masters). That was more-or-less true, for the conflict was between two small groups and the masses of the people were simply the blind and miserable victims of the situation.

Today, it is not possible to make such a clear distinction between the forces. No nation or group of nations can be classed in a broad generalization as either black or white. Only people with no vision and an intolerant and prejudiced spirit will speak in this manner. All nations have within them those who are swayed by the Forces of Light and who respond easily to the concept of goodwill, and those who are swayed by the Forces of Darkness and who respond to the concept of selfish materialism.

In all nations there are those who are still in darkness and cannot begin to see the true issues. This is a statement of fact. As for this group, they are, through ancient karma, the descendants of the Lords of Darkness. Their ideals make possible the activity of the forces of materialism. Even the most dangerous of them are conscious of some form of idealism, but they are misguided and full of the will-to-power upon the physical plane. This is, of course, further stimulated by the inflow of the Shamballa energy.

These people endeavor constantly to negate the new and to hold back the evolution and development of human consciousness. Forget not that the real issue is in the field of consciousness and that the struggle is between form and the life within the form, and between progress and reactionary activity.

You are hereby warned not to make the lines of separation wider by placing yourself, and those who follow your form of ideology, upon the side of the Forces of Light, with all the other people and their ideologies, with which you may not agree, upon the side of the Forces of Darkness.

In the final analysis, the issue is the right to express the will-to-good, the right to express human relationships, unobstructed by territorial barriers and national habits of thought. It involves the right to show love to all beings and thus stamp out hate and separateness. It concerns the right of all nations to live at peace with their neighbors and harmoniously with each other, without placing national possessions, frontiers, culture, power and ambition before the general good and the happiness of the world of men.

This is the real and underlying issue.
